Wildmoor Waters Catch Report

Written by Leon Sprague - Nov 2017

My wife and I arrived at Wildmoor waters on the 30th of October for a four night long session. After being greeted by Andy and Alison and going through the rules of the fishery we got set up in the lodge and I started to get my rods sorted.

Fishing had been slow on the previous week and I couldn't see any initial signs of fish. I started to have a cast around with just a lead to try and find some spots. It didn't take very long to find a few spots that I was happy with. I opted to fish two rods on one spot and have my 3rd rod as a roving rod.

The spot I decided to fish was in the firmer silt, just off the back of some gravel. With it being quite late in the year and with the carp being heavily fished for in the previous months I opted for small baits and plenty of small bits in my spod mix which consisted of CC Moore Live System whole and crushed, Hemp, Corn and Maggots. This would hopefully get the fish feeding more confidently, leading to them slipping up.

With all the rods all clipped up and ready to go I opted to fish my left rod on a stiff hinged rig with a  CC Moore 12mm  Dairy Supreme pop up tipped off with four  maggots, the middle rod on a blow back rig with  a Live System wafter  and my 3rd rod on a stiff hinged rig with a Nothern special. With all three rods out I started off with 15 spods over the first two rods and a handful of Live System over the other rod.

After finally getting everything out and being happy I retreated back to the lodge for a much needed brew. I was just about to have my sip and my left had rod was away...

After a very good fight I slipped the net under a lovely looking scaley mirror. After getting the rod back out and topping up with a further four spods the middle rod was away.  After another cracking fight I had my first Wildmoor twenty, weighing in at 23-4. I was already over the moon with the start of our trip, by the following morning my tally was now up to seven fish up to 29-8. This continued throughout the morning and at one point both rods went off at the same time.
Over the next few days I was lucky enough to keep the fish coming, baiting up after each fish. I ended up with 19 fish which consisted of a 39-4 common, 33-12 common , 29-8 mirror,  27-2 mirror, 2 x 25lb mirror, 5 x mirrors between 22lb and 24lb with the rest being mid doubles.

It was our first time at Wildmoor Waters and we have already booked to come back again. The lodge was fantastic, had everything we needed and more! The owners Andy and Alison are very friendly and are at the end of the phone if you need anything.
